Association of Lawyers: There cannot be more than five representatives of one country at a session of the UN General Assembly

The Association of Lawyers of Montenegro says that the number of representatives of one country at the plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly cannot exceed five.
Due to justified public reactions and indignation at the structure and number of the Montenegrin delegation determined to travel to the session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Association of Lawyers of Montenegro refers to Article 9 of the UN Charter, which determines the permitted number of members - representatives at the level of one national delegation at the plenary session, which it cannot be more than five, plus an ambassador/permanent representative to the UN, regardless of the number of inhabitants of the country or some other criterion - the Association of Lawyers pointed out.
When it comes to the additional number of members of the delegation who will travel with the head of the delegation, they say that it is determined by each country individually, in accordance with its own policy and needs.
At the request of the public, the obligation remains to explain the task and the need for additional members and attach a specification of the spent public funds - they concluded in the announcement.
We remind you that Abazović led the Montenegrin delegation last year as prime minister, but decided to attend this event this year too, although Montenegro will be represented at the session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York by state president Jakov Milatović with his delegation.
Until now, the unwritten rule in Montenegrin diplomacy was that our country was represented by the prime minister one year, and the president the next. However, the Government in its technical mandate made the decision that Abazović, as the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, should still go to the USA and take with him a delegation that will mainly consist of the entire Cabinet of the Prime Minister.
The absurdity of the Government's decision is even more noticeable when it is known that it is a conference of heads of state or government, which means that the president and prime minister from one country never go to New York together. Montenegro will thus set a diplomatic precedent.
