Bosniak council: We resolutely reject any possibility of redrawing the borders and will oppose any revision of history

AUTHOR: M.J. GDNUS

We collectively remember the date when, at the First Bosniak Parliament, a decision was made to reaffirm the historical and traditional name Bosniak and the name of the native Bosnian language, the Bosniak Council announced.

"On that day, September 28, 1993, in occupied Sarajevo, the most respected and significant Bosniak authorities met, giving a historic response in defense of the right to their own existence.

The Bosniak people are established and autochthonous in their historical areas, which today belong to different countries - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, North Macedonia. Our emigration in Turkey, Western Europe and America is a part of a unique nation whose cultural and spiritual wealth exceeds both numbers and borders," the announcement states.

As they come, unfortunately, those historical spaces were also the scene of large pogroms and killing grounds of the Bosniak people, so on this anniversary we remember many tragic events and genocides - from Šahović to Srebrenica.

"But we also remember great national ups and downs - brave and wise people, creators, benefactors, benefactors and waqifs, who have permanently indebted the Bosniak people with their work and creativity.

Bosniaks in Montenegro and the countries of the region are committed to coexistence and respect for diversity, prosperity and democratic development, and support stability, connection and cooperation in the region. With our commitment to Euro-Atlantic integration, we stand with all our national being.

We resolutely reject any possibility of crossing borders, disintegration, and we will oppose any revision of history.

The borders of our countries are not an obstacle in the closeness and feeling of belonging to the same people. We want to maintain our ties that are deep in the same language, culture and religion, and they are historical, regional, but also family and kinship," they said in the statement.

They say that they want to build joint institutions, which will be our mother society in terms of culture and identity, and unite all our spiritual and creative potentials, in social engagement and especially in the field of research, preservation and presentation of our national heritage.

"Deeply convinced of the vision of building the unity of the Bosniak people around these great civilizational goals, we congratulate all Bosniaks on September 28, Bosniak Day," they concluded in the announcement.
