Council of the EU on the Intergovernmental Conference with Montenegro

SOURCE: POBJEDA / M.J.
The working group for the enlargement of the EU Council will discuss holding an intergovernmental conference with Montenegro at the session scheduled for January 10, Pobjeda learns. According to unofficial sources, the plan is for the Intergovernmental Conference to be held at the end of January this year, after it did not happen at the end of last year, despite the announcements of high Montenegrin officials.
In the document Pobjeda had access to, it was stated that tomorrow the Working Group will discuss the draft of the EU's common position for the 15th meeting of the Intergovernmental Conference at the ministerial level with Montenegro.
The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, said, during the EU-Western Balkans summit in mid-December, that he had received information from EU officials that the MVK would be held by the end of December.
I expected that the intergovernmental conference would take place in December, but I think it is an important thing because it would additionally send a positive signal from Montenegro about the reforms that were done in the previous period. I think that the Government will additionally present what has been done and the plan and dynamics of the reforms that are necessary to complete that reform effort by 2026 - said Milatović in a New Year's interview for RTCG, stating that its maintenance is a good signal.
Even though the upcoming MVK will not be of great importance for the negotiations, because Montenegro will not close any of the open chapters at that meeting, it will nevertheless serve as an opportunity to point out to the Montenegrin authorities the importance of our country's European path and invite them to speed up that path.
