The EU calls on all institutions to respect the law and adhere to the Constitution, as this is the key to Montenegro's European path, the EU Delegation to Montenegro said in a statement.
"The Commissioner encouraged all political forces to come together to overcome the current impasse and provide the widest possible support for EU-related reforms," the statement said.
The statement said that Kos offered the Commission's support in finding possible solutions in the interest of Montenegro and its EU accession process, including the possibility of an assessment by an independent international body.
"The EU once again urges Montenegro to amend the current legal framework and establish specific regulations on labour rights, including criteria for the retirement of judges and prosecutors, which should be aligned with European standards and existing recommendations of the Venice Commission," the statement from the European Union Delegation said.
As they concluded, the EU calls on all competent authorities and political leaders to ensure the full functionality of the Constitutional Court as a key guarantor of the rule of law and democratic stability, including timely appointments based on merit, transparency and legal requirements.
