Frontex is not satisfied with the cooperation with the Montenegrin authorities, the EU warns that bad grades are possible in the EC report

Frontex (EU Border and Coast Guard Agency) is dissatisfied with the cooperation with Montenegro, according to the information sent to the head of the Montenegrin mission to the European Union, Petar Marković, by the head of the Unit for Serbia in Montenegro in the General Directorate of the European Commission for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations. Michael Miller.
Miller, as stated in the document published by Antena M, "expressed dissatisfaction reporting on the negative impressions of Frontex representatives regarding cooperation with the Montenegrin authorities."
Miller is worried about, as stated, the fact that there is a lack of proactivity on the part of competent institutions and that, in connection with this, cooperation with the Montenegrin side is difficult.
"Montenegro did not send a representative to the Frontex headquarters in Warsaw, which was the practice until now," Miller points out.
It is emphasized that the deterioration of cooperation with the National Coordination Center has been observed.
"The joint operation with members of Frontex on the blue border planned for July is currently at a standstill, although joint actions are extremely important in the fight against smuggling by sea routes along the Adriatic," warns the document addressed to the Montenegrin ambassador to the European Union.
Miller also notes that there is a lack of logistical support and that the Frontex delegation was denied the use of the premises of the Montenegrin MUP, so they meet in a hotel!
In all previous reports of the European Commission, Montenegro's cooperation with Frontex has been positively assessed. In the letter, Miller asked Marković to coordinate with Montenegrin institutions and to eliminate the perceived weaknesses as soon as possible.
In the document obtained by our editorial office, it is concluded that all shortcomings need to be corrected in order for Montenegro to avoid negative evaluations in the next European Commission Report announced for October.
We recall that in May of this year, the Minister of the Interior, Filip Adžić, and the European Commissioner for the Interior, Ilva Johansson, signed the innovative Agreement between the European Union and Montenegro on operational activities carried out by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency in Montenegro (Frontex).
The new Agreement, among other things, provided for the deployment of Frontex officers and the application of executive powers on any part of the state border of Montenegro, not only on the border with the European Union, as defined by the previous Agreement.
It is foreseen that in addition to the officers of the Police Administration of Montenegro, members of the Standing Forces teams of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency will also carry out border control tasks.
