German Ambassador: We are concerned about the accusations against Uljarević, NGOs that they work without fear

German Ambassador to Montenegro Peter Felten said that they note with concern the implicit and explicit accusations against the executive director of the Center for Civic Education (CGO) Daliborka Uljarević, and other civil society organizations, apparently linking them to organized crime and corruption.
"In the past, Germany has financially supported individual CGE projects on several occasions, as well as the latest CGE analysis of parliamentary elections from a gender perspective.
"Germany supports projects only if the organizations implementing them, according to the due diligence, are beyond doubt of their civic and civil character," Felten said on Twitter.
The German ambassador said that, like any living democracy, Montenegro needs an active civil society and a strong non-governmental sector.
He called on the Government to promote and protect an environment that allows non-governmental organizations to work freely, without fear and independently.
"We call on all relevant actors to refrain from making accusations, unless they are based on clear evidence, against civil society organizations, including non-governmental organizations, that could limit or threaten the space they need to exercise their civic role, or even threaten their representatives," Felten said.
