Democratic Party of Socialists MP Oskar Huter asked the Minister of Interior Danilo Šaranović to answer the question of how many Montenegrin citizens have received Serbian citizenship since 3 June 2006 in the manner prescribed by Serbian law.
"A member of the Serbian people who does not have permanent residence in the territory of the Republic of Serbia has the right to be admitted to citizenship of the Republic of Serbia without exemption from foreign citizenship, if he has reached the age of 18 and has not been deprived of legal capacity and if he submits a written statement that he considers the Republic of Serbia to be his country," Huter wrote in a statement, citing the Serbian Citizenship Law.
"Under the conditions set out in paragraph 1 of this article, citizenship of the Republic of Serbia may also be granted to a person born in another republic of the SFRY who had the citizenship of that republic or is a citizen of another state established on the territory of the SFRY, who resides on the territory of the Republic of Serbia as a refugee, exile or displaced person or has fled abroad." Under the conditions set out in paragraph 1 of this article, citizenship of the Republic of Serbia may be granted to a member of another nation or ethnic community from the territory of the Republic of Serbia," Huter quotes the provisions of the Law, which he encloses with a question to Minister Šaranović.
