Joanikije and Rajnka talked in the Cetinje monastery: Churches and religious communities are important for maintaining an atmosphere of peace and understanding

In Montenegro, churches and religious communities have a significant social role, not only in matters of religion, but also in creating and maintaining an atmosphere of peace, understanding and cooperation among citizens, assessed Metropolitan Joanikije of the Montenegrin littoral SPC and American Ambassador Judy Reising Rajnke.

The MCP SPC announced that Joanikije met with Rising Rajnka and her associates in the Cetinje monastery.

"During the conversation, the interlocutors agreed that in Montenegro, as a multi-ethnic and multi-religious state, churches and religious communities have their significant social role, not only in matters of religion, but also in creating and maintaining an atmosphere of peace, understanding and cooperation of all Montenegrin citizens", it is said in the announcement, reports Mina.

Rajnke is said to have conveyed that the United States of America is interested in issues of religious freedom and overall stability in the region.

It was added that she stressed the need to respect the religious and other human rights of all without distinction, both from the state and among citizens and religious communities.

It is said that Joanikije introduced the Rising Rajnka to the most important religious, humanitarian, educational and cultural activities of the Metropolis, expressing his commitment to religious life, as the foundation of all other endeavors and efforts.

"Raising Rajnka and Joanikije exchanged views on other current issues concerning the role of the Church and religious communities in contemporary Montenegrin society, agreeing that dialogue is the best means of overcoming all challenges," the announcement states.
