Michel: Montenegro has more tasks to complete before closing chapters 23 and 24, we expect an acceleration of their integration

The President of the European Council, Sharl Michel, said that, apart from appointing the judiciary, Montenegro has other tasks that it must fulfill in order to obtain temporary benchmarks for closing Chapters 23 and 24.
He told reporters in Brussels that the temporary standards are covered by a large number of different factors and that some of them relate to the rule of law, the fight against corruption, organized crime...
I think that Montenegro focused on the right things. We see that too many key judicial positions have been vacant for a long time. The engagements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia and her Austrian colleague in the direction of filling seats in the Constitutional Court were successful, Mišel said.
He added that the appointment of the remaining members of the Judicial Council is something that will give an additional boost to Montenegro's chances to quickly close the chapters and meet the temporary criteria.
Of course, it is also necessary to appoint a permanent president of the Supreme Court and a permanent Supreme State Prosecutor, as well as the president of the Prosecutor's Council. In the case of Montenegro, we need to see a transparent procedure that ensures the proper functioning of the judiciary with independence, impartiality and integrity. I think that Montenegro understands all that and I expect that we will see a quantum jump in the speed of their integration process, said Michel.
