Milatović: I will be the president of all citizens, a reconciled Montenegro is the only true Montenegro

The newly elected president Jakov Milatović took the oath, thus becoming the new president of Montenegro.
I swear that I will perform the duties of the President responsibly, honorably and responsibly, according to the Constitution and the law - said Milatović.
In his speech after taking the oath, MIlatović said that he feels a special honor and pride that he is assuming the office of President of Montenegro today in front of the deputies.
I consider it a privilege but also the greatest responsibility that I was given the opportunity to be at the head of the country in which I was born, which I love endlessly, whose foundations were woven by generations of my ancestors with sweat and blood, winning its freedom and defending its right to exist. If I could choose, I would have been born right here on the most beautiful piece of land, tucked between the sea and the stone, at the eternal crossroads between east and west - said Milatović.
He said that he will be the true president of all citizens, regardless of their national, religious or any other affiliation.
The change of the political establishment and the consolidation of our democracy gives rise to optimism that in the coming period we will solve open issues that are of vital importance for the future of Montenegro with much more common ground - he said.
He said that he will work on reconciliation in Montenegro, because, as he said, the only reconciled Montenegro is the only real Montenegro.
He added that the institutional system, created to suit one party, did not withstand the challenges brought by the change of government.
From such an experience, we have extracted important messages, which will help us to create strong institutions that will guarantee the legal security of our citizens - said Milatović.
He claims that he will work even more dedicatedly on the creation of a sustainable economic model with a focus on capital projects and the opening of new and better-paid jobs, adding that he will focus on the economic promotion of Montenegro in inter-term activities.
Milatović also said that Montenegro will not deviate from the directions and commitments that imply our country as part of the EU.
The global context determined by the Russian attack on Ukraine cannot and will not be a deviation from our directions and determinations, which include Montenegro as part of the EU family. We have shown this by clearly defining ourselves according to security challenges. For me, there is no doubt about where we belong - we belong to Europe, which is united in its diversity - he added.
As he said, Montenegro will continue to step decisively towards the fulfillment of the main political goal.
As president, says Milatovič, he will contribute to the improvement of good neighborly relations.
The adoption of the EU system of values and the rapprochement of the EU region is the best remedy against the reaffirmation of the destructive policies of the past. The Berlin process remains the main bridge between the West Bank and Brussels, the revitalization of which is extremely important - added Milatović.
He also said that he will support regional initiatives that can work in the function of EU membership as the ultimate common goal.
Summarizing his speech, Milatović said that the mandate begins with the desire to "make a full contribution to the further democratic development of the state, institutional stabilization and economic progress.
Within the framework of the competences given to me by the Constitution and the Law, I will strive to be a factor of reconciliation and unity for the benefit of every citizen and society as a whole, but I will also be a corrective factor, directing social processes towards further democratization of Montenegro - he added.
He also claims that he will not divide citizens into those who voted for him and those who thought otherwise.
From the first day, I will think about how the last day of my mandate will look like when I collect the works that I will leave behind. And the greatest work will be a rich democratic Montenegro. Swearing today, I make a vow that I will work devotedly for the betterment of Montenegro and as the first among equals to stand on the side of its constitutional legal order. Long live Montenegro - concluded Milatović.
The President of the Assembly, Danijela Đurović, said that they gathered today for Milatović to take the oath.
The Constitution established the taking of an oath, but even though an oath is made up of words, it is not just a word for our Montenegro. In Montenegro, that of Njegošev, there was also talk of trying to stay harder than the stone of this Montenegrin - she said.
An oath, as she said, is more sublime than all other words.
That's why I expect that a publicly spoken word and obligation has weight and seriousness and responsibility - she said.
