President of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska - Davkova arrived on an official visit to Montenegro, at the invitation of the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović.
"I have had the opportunity to visit North Macedonia three times on the occasion of multilateral events, and it was a pleasure to recently host the president at the Brioni Hill Summit in Tivat. I am particularly pleased with the appointment of Ms. Radmila Šekerinska, former Minister of Defense, as Deputy Secretary General of NATO. This is a great recognition for North Macedonia, but also for the entire region," said Milatović.
As he states, he is convinced that with her in this high position, he will contribute more effectively to strengthening regional stability.
"Montenegro and North Macedonia share the common goal of EU integration. Montenegro, as a leader, aims to become a member by 2028, and on that path we remain sincere friends," said Milatović.
Milatović also pointed out that we now have nine cadets at the Military Academy in Skopje, which, he said, speaks in favor of good cooperation.
"A joint session of the two governments should be held soon. I am particularly pleased that the Montenegrin minority will be added as part of the upcoming constitutional change, if North Macedonia decides to do so. For Montenegro, this is a sign of friendship because it will enable their greater visibility in exercising their rights. However, better economic cooperation is needed," he said.
According to Milatović, the issue of establishing an airline between Montenegro and North Macedonia was raised.
"I believe that we will have the results of that work in the spring of next year."
Milatović concluded by saying that Montenegro remains a great friend of North Macedonia.
Milatović: PES is no longer harming itself, but also the country
When asked by Macedonian journalists, Milatović said that Montenegro is currently the most advanced and that Montenegro's success story would be an example to other candidates.
"It seems to me that, due to certain actions of both the current government and the parliamentary majority, Montenegro is sliding towards complex relations with certain EU member states, and I am specifically thinking of Croatia. Unfortunately, last year we thought that we would close ten chapters by the end of this year, and now there is every chance that we will close only four, and the question arises about the dynamics of how to achieve this goal," said Milatović.
Regarding the call for dialogue addressed to Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, he said that he is also part of the goal of Montenegro becoming the 28th member of the EU.
"Unfortunately, what is evident is that the movement I founded, which significantly contributed to the transformation of Montenegro, is now in a situation where it no longer leads such processes. Today, that movement no longer has a president or a mayor of Podgorica. They have come to a situation that not only harms that movement, but also the state in the context of that goal, which is Montenegro becoming the 28th member of the EU," he stressed.
Milatović reminded that he is not a member of any party, but that he supported a list in the elections that, as he says, promotes the idea of a Euro-Atlantic Montenegro.
He did not want to talk about whether Olivera Injac will be the ambassador to Belgium, and Todor Goranović to NATO.
"Yesterday I spoke with Ervin Ibrahimović and it was a good conversation. With his arrival, the MFA's relationship with the president of the country has changed and that is very important. The majority of that conversation was focused on certain proposals from career diplomats, I think that is a good and constructive approach. Despite certain political disagreements between me and Ibrahimović from the past, Ibrahimović and I demonstrate a constructive approach. I respect Ms. Injac, so I do not want to comment on that, and if it comes to that, we will see how I will position myself, if the proposal is well-reasoned, they have an interlocutor in me," he said.
Siljanovska-Davkova: Montenegrins will be in the Constitution, we shared good and evil together
Siljanovska - Davkova emphasized that she is glad to be in Cetinje, stating that this city is a symbol of Montenegrin statehood.
"Why the first visit to Montenegro? Because Montenegro is currently a leader in the process of reintegration of the region where we truly belong - in the EU. Geographically, historically and culturally we have always been part of the EU," she said.
She said that she believes that Montenegrins will be recognized by the amendments to the Constitution of North Macedonia.
"No one denies them, there is no problem, we have all been together for a long time, for better and for worse," she pointed out, stating that amending the Constitution is still a somewhat longer process in that country, and that they "are the record holders for amending the Constitution in the last 30 years, we had 36 amendments".
She thanked from the bottom of her heart for the wonderful welcome, stressing that she is looking forward to the fact that Montenegro will open four chapters by the end of the year.
