Milatović: The state's position on Srebrenica is known, the question for the government is whether it has changed its mind

SOURCE-POBJEDA
The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, said that he was surprised by the decision that the main negotiator should be the holder of the PES list in the elections in Budva.
I leave it to the citizens to judge whether the decision of one of the separatist parties to appoint the chief negotiator as the holder of the electoral list in the local elections is good for the fulfillment of the state's interest, but I think the answer is clear. I am a little surprised by that decision, again bearing in mind what our national interest is, and the interest is EU membership. In order for that to happen, it is important that we receive IBAR in June and unlock our European path. Every decision of the decision-maker must take this into account - said Milatović at a press conference with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar.
Asked if he would form a party with which he would participate in the elections, he said that his party is Montenegro.
At the moment, my party is Montenegro, and we will see if the processes in the country will require my different positioning - said Milatović.
Commenting on the fact that 70 NGOs signed the appeal, which requests that the Government co-sponsor the UN resolution on Srebrenica, Milatović says that Montenegro has a state position.
Whether the Government has changed its opinion in relation to the state position, that is a question for the Government - said Milatović.
"Recognize the past, in order to move into the future"
Pirc Musar said that court decisions marked genocide as genocide.
The issue of Srebrenica is not easy, but we all know that there are court decisions that have labeled genocide as genocide. There is no discussion there and there shouldn't be - said Pirc Musar.
Slovenia decided to co-sponsor, because it is about what kind of message we convey to the generations that are coming after us. It's a difficult matter, but we need to acknowledge what we did in the past, in order to move forward. That is my sincere message to the people of Montenegro - she said.
Asked to comment on the State Department's report on democratic processes in Montenegro, Milatović said that our country is experiencing a significant democratic transformation and consolidation.
I believe that we have become a more democratically mature society and it seems to me that there is a political will to respond to the challenges that this country had in the previous period. It is good that there has been a change, and thus a stronger faith of citizens in the institutions of our system - said Milatović.
He also says that he is satisfied with the trend of democratic development.
I agree that it could have been better and that we should pay more attention to it in the future. It is up to the decision-makers to show visible results and to move from words to actions - the president concluded, adding that lately the rhetoric has not matched the actions.
Pirc Musar: A stable Balkan means a stable Europe
The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, said that Slovenia was and is, and he is convinced that it will continue to be the strongest supporter of Montenegro's entry into the EU. At a media conference with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, he said that Montenegro remains committed to the affirmation of neighborly relations in the Balkans.
The support of enlargement friends like Slovenia is of particular importance to us. I am glad that with your presence you will be able to see for yourself the democratic development of Montenegro, the implementation of reform processes, but also the aspirations to improve economic activity - said Milatović.
Slovenia, said Milatović, is not only one of the most important partners, but it is a country that we should look up to in terms of development.
The President of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, said that there are many opportunities for cooperation within the framework of the two countries, and economic cooperation is especially important.
A clear message to you and your people is that Slovenia, which has been a member of the European Union for 20 years, has a sincere friend and ally who strongly supports your further European journey and is always ready to help you - said Pirc Musar.
She said that in order to achieve external political goals, great patience is needed and that there must be unity inside and outside the state. She said that whenever she meets Milatović, he always advocates the European path of Montenegro.
EU membership was one of Slovenia's main goals. That's how it should be in Montenegro. Montenegro is following its own path, but it has the same vision as we had in Slovenia, that's why we sincerely support you - said Pirc Musar.
She said that in the current geopolitical circumstances, we must not forget about the Balkans. If the Balkans are stable, so will Europe, she believes.
Despite different opinions, we want the Balkans to become part of Europe. We EU members must recognize this, but the process is two-way. States must adopt reforms and honor agreements. At the same time, the EU, as an experienced benevolent leader, together with the member states, must help the countries of the Balkans by their example - said Pirc Musar.
She also said that the feeling of forgetting to join can lead to instability and cool relations between neighbors.
For Slovenia, Montenegro is an important factor in the region. We are looking forward to Montenegro that country that opened all the chapters. You can really be an example to everyone in the region. There is great affection for your country within the EU, and I hope that Montenegro will remain a driving locomotive for everyone in the region - she said.
