Minority Parties: The Conclusion of the Constitutional Committee is Unconstitutional, We Are Concerned About the Polarization of the Political Scene

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

As political representatives of the smaller nations, we are seriously concerned about the current polarization of the political scene in Montenegro, further burdened by the conclusion of the Constitutional Committee, which we consider unconstitutional, as well as by political moves that may jeopardize the dynamics of Montenegro's European path and the European path in general.

As they state, at today's meeting they agreed on joint action to fulfill the political priorities of the smaller peoples who indigenously live in Montenegro, which are:

"Montenegro as a multiethnic, democratic, civil state, a credible member of the NATO pact, a state of the rule of law and social justice;

Absolute equality of citizens, guarantee of all fundamental human rights in accordance with ratified international documents and domestic legislation, decentralization and balanced regional development;

Montenegro's rapid accession to the EU, a stable partnership with NATO and a policy of zero conflict with neighboring countries;

Rejection of political compromises that suspend democratic and universal values on which democratic societies and the European Union are based;

The rule of law, which is based on generally accepted standards in the European Union, as the best guarantee of the realization of minority and all human rights of all citizens of Montenegro and, in this context, the protection of the Constitution and the constitutional position of the Constitutional Court.

“In this regard, in the coming period we will work on strengthening the partnership and joint action of political representatives of smaller peoples in order to achieve these political priorities that are in the interest of the citizens we represent, all citizens of Montenegro, the state of Montenegro and its European and Euro-Atlantic future,” they said in a statement.

As they state, they want to increase the level of mutual coordination in the achievement of these political priorities in the coming period, work on a joint strategy of political action and a platform for long-term cooperation of political representatives of smaller peoples in order to achieve these political priorities.

“At the same time, we call on all actors of the political scene in Montenegro to engage in dialogue in order to overcome the current political crisis caused by the conclusion of the Constitutional Committee,” the joint statement of representatives of parliamentary parties of smaller peoples states.
