Necessary creation of a demographic development strategy

SD Vice President Boris Mugoša and candidate on the coalition list TOGETHER! he pointed out that the coalition's program envisages the creation of a demographic development strategy, i.e. population policy.
According to Mugoša, negative natural growth has been recorded in Montenegro for the third year in a row, which is present in as many as 2/3 of Montenegrin municipalities. Also, Mugoša reminds that in 2020, for the first time since the Second World War, a negative natural increase was recorded.
"We need to realistically look at the numbers of recent years and observe them in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly affected the decrease in the number of newborns and the increase in the number of deaths. However, what certainly represents a serious challenge is the constant decline in the number of newborns in recent years, within which there is a constant decline in the number of girls born, as well as the fact that negative natural growth was recorded in 17 municipalities", says the SD vice president.
Mugoša points out that it is necessary to pay much more systematic attention to demography if one takes into account the huge challenge when it comes to natural growth, as well as migration movements, where the negative migration balance of the northern region of Montenegro is particularly worrying.
Mugoša concludes that it is high time to deal with essential life challenges, not daily political challenges, and in this sense he emphasizes the necessity of developing a comprehensive strategy of population policy, i.e. demographic development, which will define key measures to overcome the huge problem facing Montenegrin society.
