Nikolić: The ruling majority is overthrowing the Committee for Electoral Reform and the supervisory role of the Assembly

The head of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Socialists, Andrija Nikolić, said that the intention of the parliamentary majority to re-introduce the proposal of the Law on the voter list to the agenda is interpreted exclusively as a new attempt to overthrow the Committee for Comprehensive Reform of Electoral Legislation.
According to him, and as stated in the announcement, this is being done on the orders of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, in order to collapse the European path of Montenegro at the very moment when there is a chance for that European path to intensify.
We will see if he will persist in that intention - added Nikolić.
He reminded that the Law on the voter list, in accordance with the agreement signed by the representatives of the government and the representatives of the opposition, during the formation of the Committee for Comprehensive Electoral Reform, is something that should be the content and subject of decisions of the Committee for Comprehensive Reform of Electoral Legislation.
We also talked about a topic that was current in the previous days and about which the media reported, and it concerns two initiatives of the opposition for control hearings at the Committee for Economy, Finance and Budget. We have not moved from what were the initial positions. The parliamentary majority still refuses to allow the Committee for Economy, Finance and Budget to have a supervisory role over the work of the Government. Which means that even though they don't know anything about the "Europe Now 2" program, they don't want to be informed about that program. What's more, not only do they not want to be informed, but they obstruct and violate the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Montenegro, which in Article 75 stipulates that the parliamentary opposition, as a contribution to the supervisory role of the Parliament, has the right during a regular session to initiate twice by a third of the members of that The Committee's control hearing on certain topics and that after that the Committee decides on it and informs the Assembly - emphasized NIkolić.
He stated that the practice that has been established since the beginning of this convocation of the parliament is not good and obviously aims not only to destroy any potential agreement within the Committee for Comprehensive Reform and electoral legislation, but also to exclude the opposition from parliamentary life in the worst possible way.
Commenting on the latest developments in the security sector, he said that the latest events related to the dismissal of the police director show that an anarchic state continues with the aim of establishing political control in the security sector.
I think things are completely clear there. The law clearly stipulates how the director of the Police Directorate is selected. Now the representatives of the parliamentary majority, i.e. the Government, have come up with a new model that the law does not recognize, all with the aim of continuing the political struggle for control over the police. Because what would happen next after such a proposed model for overcoming this problem that they cannot agree on politically - to organize a public competition through social networks and let whoever gets the most likes be the director of the Police Administration. This is an anarchist situation that is obviously continuing, all with the aim of establishing political control over the security sector in Montenegro - NIkolić concluded.
