Parties that could do the new government assure that they will be facing the west, not Belgrade and Moscow

Special envoy and the US Department center Coordinator for the global engagement of James Rubin said in Montenegro, that from the party, which could do the new government, received that it would turn to the West, not Belgrade and Moscow.

In conversation with Montenegrin journalists, Rubin said that "they understand how important the fight against misinformation", and that their interest must be eliminating a great influence that misinformation they have on the people in the country.

Asked to the country in the country expects to turn the West when it comes to the fight against misinformation or to be favorable to Belgrade, Rubin said that it is quite convinced that they understand how important this question is.

And that their interest and interests of their people to eliminate a great influence that misinformation have on people in the country. Without changes in the media environment that people here face, it will be difficult to separate the various parts of the puzzle and the interest between Russian and Serbian ... if Russian misinformation is dominated by space here, progress will be difficult. What I've heard from the leader here and what encouraged me is to turn to us and the EU. I find it difficult to believe that they would return hands back to time when Moscow ruled this media space. Because it's the same Moscow that attacks Ukraine, destroys Russian reputation and collapses Ukraine - Rubin said.

Although he emphasized that the elections would soon be, and that he is not yet known who will do the government, because it was unpredictable, Rubin said that the presidential elections showed who could be.

From these leaders, he says, heard that they are ready to be able to fight disinformation seriously.

People here are a significant benefit of misinformation from Russia and the new government must take it very seriously. I talked to people who could be part of that government, we talked to fight it and about what the way in the new government this issue is resolved by systemic. I'm encouraged to hear even though you never know who will be in power, I thought Hillary Clinton would win in America's elections, so he didn't, "Rubin said.

Montenegro is waiting for a better future

Rubin, who used to be an associate of Madelin Olbrajt, State Secretary of the United States at the time of the war in Yugoslavia, said it was good to be here again.

As many of you know, I worked for Medlin Olbrajt. Sometimes when I'm here, I revive her memories, because the time when she was in office, late 90s, they were a difficult time for this part of the world. Still, I think she helped to get to change, which brought a better future to this part of the world - he pointed out.

He also says that Montenegro after the election is waiting for a better future.

I talked to some of your leaders this morning, I know you'll soon have a choice. It will be important choices that will lead to power new leadership for the new future of Montenegro. And I believe it will be a better future, not just because Montenegro is part of NATO today, but also because the EU membership should be rejoiced in the near future - he said.

The reason for his stay in Montenegro, on behalf of the American administration, is, as he says, which successful future must include a strong, one hundred percent fight against misinformation.

It is a new discipline, a new problem worldwide because it is a dark side of a digital revolution used by authoritarian modes like Moscow and China. They use tools that needed to serve democratization. We have to stop that best we can, it won't be perfect, but it has to be dedicated. I am glad that Montenegrin leaders understand what the origin of it is, and understand that the fight against disinformation is part of a successful democracy - he emphasized.

He believes that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has made things clear for everyone in this region.

They have to make a choice, yes. But from what I heard, he will make a good choice - the American diplomat pointed out.

"Believers of the SPC to remember that Ukrainians are Orthodox"

Asked the victory that Montenegro can fight against misinformation, keeping in mind the great influence of Belgrade and the Serbian Orthodox Church, he said that a hundred percent efforts in the fight with disinformations.

Channels that spread misinformation should be blocked, regulations must exist. We have to respect the freedom of speech, you have the right to have views and report it. This is a problem, find the border between media freedom and dangerous misinformation. It's hard, but it's possible, "he said.

When it comes to SPC, Rubin says that the Russian invasion of Ukraine has changed the circumstances in the region and that everyone eyes are wide open.

It would be good for the believers of the Orthodox to remember that Ukrainians are Orthodox and that victims are in this war - Rubin said.
