The session of the Council for Defense and Security, where the Chief of the General Staff of the Montenegrin Army, Brigadier General Zoran Lazarević, was discussed, was paused.
As announced by the Cabinet of the President of Montenegro, it will be continued when the agendas of the members of the Council allow it.
Let us remind you that on August 28, 2024, the Minister of Defense, Dragan Krapović, submitted to the Council for Defense and Security a proposal for the dismissal of Lazarevic due to, as he stated, the assessment that a generational change and rejuvenation of the officer cadre in the Army is needed, but the Supreme Command refused because there was no consensus among its members on this.
However, Krapović did not give up on the dismissal of Lazarevic and announced yesterday at an extraordinary press conference that he had informed the Supreme State Prosecutor, Milorad Marković, that he had knowledge of Lazarevic's illegal actions.
According to him, acting contrary to the laws, Lazarevic addressed the Presidents of Montenegro, the Parliament and the Government, Jakov Milatović, Andrija Mandić and Milojko Spajić, but not the Council for Defense and Security. After Krapović's press conference, Lazarevic told the media that it was true that he wrote to the members of the Defense and Security Council, because the Minister of Defense forbade communication with the offices of the Prime Minister and the Assembly, but not with the President.
