PEN center: Competent to urgently investigate the case of stoning of HGI premises in Kotor

The Montenegrin PEN center strongly condemned the stoning of the premises of the Croatian Civic Initiative in Kotor and called on the authorities to urgently investigate the case and bring the culprits to justice.
The multinational harmony in Montenegro, which was carefully built in the period from 1997 to 2020, has been seriously damaged since the Montenegrin authorities tolerate and encourage an atmosphere of fear and insecurity for all citizens who are not believers of the privileged social authority - the Belgrade Patriarchate. The nationalist and chauvinist orgy after the presidential elections, which did not meet with the necessary condemnation from the newly elected president of Montenegro, reminded of the nationalist hysteria from the 90s and warned that society is rapidly moving backwards, rejecting all achievements of emancipation from the previous period - they say from the Montenegrin PEN Center.
They point out that they are following these retrograde trends with concern, normalized thanks to the actions of the authorities and the media serving them.
In addition to the evident growth of xenophobia and clero-nationalism in Montenegro, we are increasingly witnessing examples of segregation, discrimination and revanchism. The latest activity of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, launched only 2 days after the end of the presidential elections and aimed at demolishing allegedly illegally built buildings of the current President of Montenegro, is recognized by the public as a typical example of revanchism. In order to avoid accusations of possible selectivity in her actions and to show that her sole intention is to apply the law, we call on Minister Novaković-Đurović to initiate the procedure for the removal of the illegally built building on top of Rumija as soon as possible, which for almost two decades has not only defied positive legal according to the regulations of Montenegro already symbolizes the barbaric destruction of the most valuable, interreligious segments of Montenegrin spiritual culture - they conclude in the PEN Center.
