Pisonero and Popa: The EU is worried about the vote in the Parliament, judges of the Constitutional Court must be elected urgently

The European Union is concerned about yesterday's adoption of the Law on the President, which actually changes the president's prerogatives through the adoption of the law under emergency procedure, said European Commission spokeswoman Ana Pisonero Hernandez and EU Ambassador to Montenegro Oana Kristina Popa.
"All legislative acts should be in accordance with the Constitution. This issue is particularly sensitive due to the absence of an effective constitutional court, where parliament has repeatedly failed to appoint the necessary number of judges to ensure its proper functioning. The members of the Constitutional Court must be appointed urgently", said Pisonero Hernandez.
The European Union called on political actors to seek a quick de-escalation and agree on a solution to the "current political impasse", in order to realize the desire of the citizens of Montenegro to join the EU.
"The annual report of the EU expressed concern about the issue of the rule of law and the absence of political dialogue," reminded Pisonero.
EU Ambassador to Montenegro Oana Kristina Popa also pointed out that judges of the Constitutional Court must be elected urgently.
"The EU calls on all political actors to work on quickly calming tensions and to agree on a solution to the current political blockade, in order to achieve progress in EU accession in accordance with the wishes of the citizens," repeated Popa.
