Currently, two detainees are being held in the pre-trial detention center who have been diagnosed with the skin disease scabies. In order to prevent the spread of the disease, they have been isolated. It is also feared that tuberculosis has also appeared in the prison. For now, one detainee from the short-term prison is suspected of being infected, and the test results are awaited. That detainee is currently being treated in the hospital in Brezovik. As a precaution, all detainees who have been in contact with him have been isolated, writes Dan.
The UIKS Administration confirmed to Dan that two cases of scabies have been recorded and that one detainee is suspected of being infected with tuberculosis.
“Currently, in the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, in the Pre-trial Prison in Podgorica, there are two detainees who have been diagnosed with the contagious skin disease scabies. In order to prevent the spread of the infection, these detainees were isolated from other detainees and provided with all necessary therapy. In other organizational units of UIKS where detainees and convicted persons are housed, no cases of scabies have been recorded,” UIKS announced.
As for the detainee suspected of having tuberculosis, after receiving medical assistance at the Clinical Center of Montenegro, he was referred to Brezovik for further treatment.
“One detainee who is housed in a prison for short sentences, due to certain health problems, was referred to specialist examinations at the Clinical Center of Montenegro. After certain diagnostic procedures, and due to suspicion of having tuberculosis, this person was referred for further examination to the Special Hospital for Pulmonary Diseases in Brezovik. Despite the fact that we have not yet received official results on whether this person has tuberculosis, for the purpose of prevention, the detainees who were staying with this person were isolated,” UIKS said.
