Several UPC officials were arrested, among them the head of the Department for the Prevention of Smuggling

After evaluating the evidence and information collected so far, by order of the state prosecutor in the Special State Prosecutor's Office, the Special Police Department deprived Ž.I. - the head of the Department for the Prevention of Smuggling and N.A.R.V. and M.S., members of the Commission for the Destruction of Confiscated Cigarettes of the Revenue and Customs Administration, due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that they have committed the criminal acts of creating a criminal organization and accepting bribes," state prosecutor and spokesman Vukas Radonjić told RTCG Portal. in SDT.

As it was announced, they will be brought to the state prosecutor for questioning as suspects within 24 hours at the latest.

"Previously, in the same case, the suspect president of the Commission for the destruction of seized cigarettes E.A., the head of the Mobile Team for Suppression of Smuggling of the Revenue and Customs Administration, M.P., and the driver of the truck with confiscated cigarettes, D.B., were deprived of their liberty, on grounds of suspicion that they committed criminal acts of creating a criminal organization "accepting bribes and abuse of official position, and after the hearing they were detained for up to 72 hours from the time of deprivation of liberty," said Radonjić.

The investigation procedure in the case, which includes other officials, as he said, in addition to the suspects and those deprived of liberty, was initiated by the Special State Prosecutor's Office, ex officio, and evidence and information were collected in cooperation with the Special Police Department.

"In order to protect the interests and purpose of the proceedings, no more information will be presented for the time being, and the Special State Prosecutor's Office will inform in a timely manner about its further actions and their results, respecting the public's right to know," said Radonjić.
