Prime Minister Milojko Spajić said that a serious tragedy occurred in Cetinje and that all available forces are on the ground and that they are on the right track.
"For now, we have four seriously injured people who are behind us in the Clinical Center, doctors are fighting for their lives, they are all on the operating tables, so first we hope that they will get out and we hope that the doctors will manage to save their lives, that is the most important thing right now," said Spajić.
He stated that an electronic session of the Government is underway.
"We will have three days of mourning, we will announce that from tomorrow. Please also for tonight, the mayor of Podgorica canceled the concert tonight in Podgorica, we ask other municipalities to adhere to that.
We will also tighten the criteria for owning weapons, tomorrow we will have the National Security Council where we will consider all models, even a complete ban on weapons and that is a possibility.
This is a tragedy in which we need to ask ourselves, who can have weapons in Montenegro, and we understand both sports and hunting, but these criteria must be tightened to the maximum," said Spajić.
We have, he says, a chronic shortage of police officers in all municipalities, so this is a matter that must be urgently resolved.
"As you know, we had problems with signing the law, so we had problems with the Council of Europe, whose opinion we are still waiting for. We are waiting to see if we can announce a competition, we will do a quick competition for the recruitment of police officers tomorrow.
So, we will announce a competition without waiting for the Council of Europe, we will explain later what a difficult situation it is, that simply municipalities in Montenegro also have this chronic problem, the lack of police officers, that is, we have hundreds and hundreds of people who are retiring, and not a single new police officer has been hired for a long time. And that is a big problem for us, this new law that we adopted a few months ago was supposed to solve that problem, however, you know that the Council of Europe was waiting, however, this is now, we simply have to implement everything as soon as we can," says Spajić.
He adds that citizens should listen to the advice of professionals, the advice of the Police Directorate and stay in their homes.
"However, they should also feel safe because all available units, I repeat, special forces, PJP and other units that deal with special tasks like this, are all on the ground, we have absolute coordination of all units and the ANB is involved and everyone else, even the army is on alert. So we expect the perpetrator to be caught quickly and to resolve this situation," he said.
According to initial information, he said, the perpetrator did not have a background of someone from the criminal milieu or who was a member of the OKG.
"So there was simply a bar fight where guns were drawn and it went in a completely different direction that it should not have gone," Spajić said.
