Stop the unconstitutional introduction of the glory of the city and illegal historical revisionism in Nikšić

The Center for Democratic Transition (CDT) Conspiries in the Assembly of the Municipality of Nikšić does not adopt the introduction of the city's glory because it is contrary to the Constitution and relevant international conventions - the Executive Director of this NGO.

They invite, as the municipality of Nikšić to give up an initiative for changing streets in the city because it, in its parts, is illegal and is an example of hazardous historical revisionism.

Although we have amazed that no councilor did not object to introducing the city's glory in the municipality of Niksic, although there is a decision of the Constitutional Court, which is a similar initiative in Herceg Novi named unconstitutionally, we hope that he at the session scheduled for April 27 will not be adopted. By adopting the proposal, Nikšić would bring members of the Orthodox Religious Community to other citizens - members of other religious communities and atheists, thus violating the principle of equality of citizens, their right to be protected from any acts indirect or immediate discrimination - he cited Koprivica.

The proposed decision, as it points out, is violating the spirit of the Constitution and important constitutional principles: Montenegro is a civil state (Article 1), are all equal to the law (Article 17) are separate from the state (Article 14), prohibition of assimilation (member 80) ...

The proposal is not in accordance with Article 9 of the Law on Freedom of the Trust, which prescribes that no religion has the status of the state religion. It is contrary to one of the basic principles of international human rights - prohibition of discrimination, which is contained in the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (Article 14 of the Convention and Protocol 12), which prohibits discrimination by public authorities per Whatever basis - said Koprivica.

The appointment of the street in Nikšić, according to Belo-Bjelopleka, the Chetnik Brigade, would assess, direct violation of the Law on Memorial Licenses, which prohibits the implementation of the Memorial Facer, his ally or helper ".

In addition to the initiated change, the same law shall apply, the obligation to adopt the proposal of the implementation of the Memorial Program for 2023, which has a clearly defined elements including a list of memorials that will be modified, refined, replaced , replaced or removed, with explanations of the reason for that. Also, the Ministry of Culture and the Media must give consent to this program, and only after that, changes are possible. On the SO Nikšić site, this program is not possible or the consent of the Ministry of Culture - Koprivica said.

Renaming the streets of the National Heroes and the Partizan Put would, adds, sent a clear message that most in so Nikšić has a problem with anti-fascism.

We respect the fact that there is a different spectrum of ideological positions in Nikšić Parliament, but we really don't expect that in the city that gave 48 narodds most councilors wants to destroy the memory of them. Destruction of memories of these people would mean the act of historical revisionism, calculation with the most promising moment of our past, and a reckless trade for the earnings of political and ideological profits. In addition, there is a problem with the current social moment and political messages that would be sent this way. And these messages would be completely clear: most in Nikšić has an equality, respect for human rights and European values, with fighters against occupiers and fascism, with a more fairer society, for society in which social justice governs and The fairer distribution of wealth, has a problem with the struggle for the poor and against strong and powerful. We hope that in Niksic, even at least a few political visions and reason and that the initiatives that are proposed will pass - he concluded Koprivica.
