The financial institution points out that the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on the Central Bank of Montenegro fully harmonizes the status and operations of that institution with the EU legal acquis.
"With the adoption of this law, part of the obligations from the first criterion related to Chapter 17 - Economic and Monetary Union would be fulfilled, which would create the conditions for closing the negotiations between Montenegro and the European Union within the mentioned chapter," stated in the statement of the CBCG.
They note that in the previous two years, they had intensive communication with the European Commission, through which, as they said, all issues related to the necessary changes to the law were agreed upon.

During the drafting of the Draft Law, the CBCG states that they closely cooperated with IMF experts, through the technical assistance program that was assigned for this purpose.
"The Central Bank has sent the established Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on the Central Bank of Montenegro to the Ministry of Finance for further procedure, in order to fulfill the obligation from the Program for the Accession of Montenegro to the European Union 2022-2023, according to which the adoption of this law is planned for the first quarter 2023," concludes the statement of the CBCG.
