The misdemeanor court confirmed the suspension of the proceedings against Batrićević, Martinović: The proceedings are an indicator of the state of Montenegrin society

AUTHOR: M.J.
Pursuant to the binding instruction of the head of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, I am giving up further misdemeanor prosecution in relation to the defendant Boban Batrićević for the offense in question, prosecutor Snežana Šišević announced at today's scheduled hearing.
Lawyer Nikola Martinović said that he had no objections, but added that this procedure is an indicator of the state of Montenegrin society.
The head of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, Lepa Medenica, yesterday gave a binding instruction to Šišević to give up further prosecution of historian and columnist Boban Batrićević due to the column "Torokanje po Methodologiju i Đaonikia", which was published in August on Antena M.
In front of the Court for Misdemeanors, on the eve of the trial, a rally was held in support of Batrićević "For freedom of speech - No The criminal complaint against Batrićević was filed in October by a lawyer close to the Serbian Orthodox Church, Dejan Dragović.
The prosecutor of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, Snežana Šišević, found that there were no elements of a criminal offense in the column, but requested that a misdemeanor proceeding be initiated against Batrićević due to the suspicion that he violated the Law on Public Order and Peace. After that, more than 20 non-governmental organizations asked the prosecutor's office to immediately abandon the proceedings against Batrićević.
Non-governmental organizations, immediately after the initiation of proceedings against Batrićević, reacted and wrote to international organizations, warning that it may happen that freedom of speech is criminalized in Montenegro and that a verbal delict be introduced.
With his "controversial column", Batrićević pointed out the anomalies and clerical tendencies in society by quoting and analyzing the views of the leaders of the SPC in Montenegro who deny the existence of Montenegrins and glorify war criminals like Draža Mihailović and Pavel Đurišić. We will remain silent."
Batrićević: The fight for the freedom of Montenegro awaits us
Historian and professor at the Faculty of Montenegrin Language, Boban Batrićević, said that the fight for the freedom of Montenegro awaits us and said that I do not see the decision to suspend the misdemeanor proceedings against him as a promotion for himself or the faculty where he works.
Rather, this is the fate of all of us, said historian and columnist Boban Batrićević to those gathered in front of the Misdemeanor Court after further misdemeanor prosecution against him was suspended.
The decision was withdrawn and I am out of the process, so I am freed - said Batrićević, thanking everyone who was with him.
The misdemeanor court confirmed the suspension of the proceedings against Batrićević, in accordance with the binding instructions of the head of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, Lepa Medenica.
I am really happy to see how many of you there are and that we are here to celebrate - he added.
Batrićević stated that the situation in society is such that there is nothing to celebrate, and that the fight for the freedom of Montenegro awaits them.
Because if we allow them to put a band-aid on our mouths, we won't be there - he stressed.
He referred to the words of Milan Kundera - when you take a joke from a society, that society disappears - and added - "they wanted to take the irony from us, but they didn't succeed, that's why they withdrew themselves".
