TAKEN - POBJEDA
I think it is quite clear that the parliamentary majority, when it comes to the co-sponsorship of the United Nations Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, is guided by the official position of the "For the Future of Montenegro" coalition, Social Democrat (SD) MP Nikola Zirojević assessed for Pobjeda.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić at a press conference yesterday avoided answering the question whether our country will be a co-sponsor of the United Nations resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, saying that at the moment he does not want to answer that, but also that the Government will co-sponsor the infrastructure?! In an interview with Pobjeda, Zirojević stated that Spajić brutally relativizes this topic.
Investments, of course, are important - but we must not ignore the character of civilization. Spajić, unfortunately, shows that he is ready to subordinate the survival of the Government and the parliamentary majority to issues that are not even political - but civilizational - underlined the deputy of SD.
Today, the government did not include the issue of co-sponsoring the UN Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica in the agenda, and it was not even discussed at the Committee for International Relations and Emigrants, since the representatives of the government, all except Seid Hadžić - an independent representative from the list of the "Europe Now" Movement, voted against the proposal sent by the deputy of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Aleksandra Vuković-Kuč.
Bearing in mind the statement that Spajić made yesterday, I am not at all surprised that my colleagues from the parliamentary majority voted against it. I am more surprised by the one who did not respect their position - Zirojević pointed out.
He added that the opposition is doing everything in their power on this issue.
We will not have a session of the Assembly where we could problematize it. Today's Board meeting was the right place for that, but we heard what the position was. I think it is clear to the public how the parliamentary majority makes meaningless the control role and any initiative that the opposition sends in accordance with the rules of procedure - said the SD deputy, adding that he fears that their room for maneuver is quite narrow in this respect.
HEAD IN THE SAND
Zirojević answered in the affirmative to Pobjeda's question whether official Montenegro, because it is conditioned by the views of the ZBCG, will deviate from the right side of history on which it has always been.
I do not expect that there will be a change of attitude, I think that they will try to keep their heads in the sand, avoid any conversation on that topic and that, unfortunately, with this kind of government and parliamentary majority, Montenegro will not be a co-sponsor of the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica - he assessed Zirojevic.
He underlined that "a serious stain" will be cast on the international reputation of our country.
Because we have always had a very clear position on this, and on numerous other issues, which unfortunately has been called into question today - added the SD deputy.
CUSTOMIZATION OF PES
He also pointed to the fact that relatively recently we had another "international embarrassment" when Vasilije Čarapić from the "Europe Now" Movement abstained on the issue of Kosovo's admission to the Council of Europe. Montenegrin deputies then voted differently: in addition to Čarapić, who abstained, Maja Vukićević from the Democratic People's Party was against, and Boris Mugoša from the Social Democrats was in favor.
This is just a continuation of such a policy - Zirojević pointed out.
While the constituents of ZBCG are in the parliamentary majority, he has no hope that Montenegro will return to the right path.
I say that because it seems to me that PES is quite adaptable: if they had some other parliamentary majority - they would play as that parliamentary majority plays. Given that Andrija Mandić chooses the notes for them, then the attitudes of the Government and the music we listen to are, unfortunately, the way they are - Zirojević is explicit.
A very good thing, in his opinion, is that numerous NGOs and prominent individuals invited the Government to co-sponsor this Resolution with their signatures.
We will continue to exert public pressure on the Government and the parliamentary majority in the coming period. Will it bear fruit: it remains to be seen, but bearing in mind who dictates the pace and direction of the parliamentary majority and the Government, I am afraid that the issue will remain just that - concluded Zirojević.
Resolution
The resolution, initiated by Germany and Rwanda, calls for July 11 to be declared the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide.
The crime in Srebrenica was labeled as genocide before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and refers to the killing of more than 8,000 Bosniaks, as determined by the judgments of international courts, in July 1995, when the Republika Srpska Army occupied Srebrenica.
So far, more than 50 people have been sentenced for genocide and crimes in Srebrenica, to more than 700 years in prison. The resolution condemns any denial of the genocide and calls on all UN members to preserve established facts, including through their educational systems, in order to prevent revisionism.
All acts of glorification of those convicted and responsible for the genocide in Srebrenica are unreservedly condemned. The resolution was sponsored by 17 countries, including the United States, but also Albania, North Macedonia, Slovenia...
