The competent Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, on the occasion of the burning of the doll of the writer Andrej Nikolaidis as part of the Herzegnov festival, will review the possible existence of a criminal offense, said the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office (VDT).
The VDT said that the attempt to connect the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) with the events at the carnival in Herceg Novi could be a reflection of ignorance or bad intentions.
The competences of the state prosecutor's offices are prescribed by law, and the determination of the fact whether a criminal offense has been committed in a specific case is not within the competence of the SDT - the VDT told the MINA agency.
When asked how they comment on the views of Miloš Nikolić, the mayor of the Democratic Party of Socialists, that the "burning" of Nikolaidis deserves an immediate reaction from the prosecution, assessing that it will probably be absent, "as it is absent in relation to everything that has happened in the previous three years".
VDT said that they will not engage in discussions on social networks.
Especially due to the fact that concrete results, in the first place of SDT, are a better indicator of success and work than baseless opinions, whose motives we do not want to get into - said the Prosecutor's Office.
They added that the SDT and Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović achieved results in the previous period that were recognized by both the domestic and international public.
This is the best way to deny claims that SDT acts in accordance with anyone's expectations and according to anyone's dictates - they stated from the VDT.
As they said, SDT acts only according to the dictates of constitutional and legal regulations and with the exclusive application of that principle will continue the dedicated fight against all forms of organized crime and corruption.
They reminded that the State Prosecutor's Office is autonomous and independent in its work and that it only recognizes the perpetrators of criminal acts.
In all situations in which it is established that a criminal offense has been committed, which is prosecuted ex officio, the reaction of the Prosecutor's Office will not be absent - said the VDT.
The VDT emphasized that it expects public office holders and all political subjects to respect institutional autonomy and independence and not to try to exercise undue influence with their statements, nor to appropriate the results of the State Prosecutor's Office.
