There is no money to increase the salaries of educators, protests and the suspension of classes are not excluded

The Government of Montenegro and the Education Union today did not reach an agreement regarding the salary increase, which, as the Union claims, is guaranteed by the Branch Collective Agreement from January 1, 2024. The Union representatives were told that there is not enough money for their salary increase.
Because of this, they do not exclude the possibility of protests, as well as the complete suspension of classes.
The government remained in the position that there is no money in the budget to increase our salaries for the next year. Our Main Board, the largest body in the Education Union, will take a stand in the coming days. There will be a certain reaction from the trade union, that's for sure - announced after today's meeting the president of the Union of Education, Radomir Božović.
Yesterday, the Montenegrin Education Union sent an open letter to Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Minister of Education, Science and Innovation Anđela Jakšić-Stojanović, in which they express dissatisfaction that the budget proposal for 2024 does not include an increase in wages for employees in education, which is contrary to the commitments undertaken by the collective agreement from the Government of Montenegro.
