It must be emphasized that the communists started an evil, bloody cycle in 1941 — claims Joanikije Mićović, the diocesan metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral of the Church of Serbia (SPC).

He spoke today at the conference "Round Table: The Path of Suffering from the Vezir Bridge to the Built Bridge", about Pavle Đurišić's Chetniks who, eight decades ago, at the end of 1944, after the lost war, withdrew from Montenegro together with the Germans.

The Chetnik-German procession, which set off on a journey of no return from Podgorica (Vezir Bridge), and was definitively destroyed in the spring of 1945 by Tito's Yugoslav Army on the territory of Slovenia (Zidani Most), included the then Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Joanikije Lipovac, and part of his clergy.

In 1941, Lipovac participated in the Petrovdan Council, at which, under the supervision of the Italian occupier, an independent Montenegro was proclaimed, and after actively supporting — through his sermons and actions — the Italians, then the Chetniks, and from the autumn of 1943, and the Germans for the armed struggle against the partisans, he ended the war as the honorary president of Đurišić's "national committee".

“The martyr Metropolitan Joanikije Lipovac was killed after the war ended without a trial or a verdict, his grave or marble remains are unknown, as are the priests who were with him on this journey,” Joanikije Mićović complained today.

“The suffering of Metropolitan Joanikije cannot be described in a few sentences because his began with the very beginning of the war in 1941, especially from the moment when the communists began to kill the most prominent people who could have had influence among the people and who did not agree with the communist ideology,” said Mićović.

“Round Table: The Path of Suffering from the Vizier’s Bridge to the Built Bridge” was held in the crypt of the St. Sava Church in Podgorica.

Among the participants from Serbia: former parish priest of Podgorica Velibor Džomić, Srđa Trifković, Srđan Cvetović, Miša Đurković; Among the speakers from here, for example, was historian Aleksandar Stamatović, and Budimir Aleksić, Deputy Prime Minister of Milojko Spajić's Government for Science, Education and Relations with Religious Communities, also spoke.
