On the occasion of the third anniversary of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution supporting Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity. Montenegro is among the countries that supported this resolution.
The resolution, authored by Ukraine and its European allies, was supported by 93 members of the world organization's representative body, 65 abstained, and 18 countries voted against, reports Voice of America.
The United Nations General Assembly has 193 member states.
The General Assembly also adopted a draft American resolution proposed on the same occasion, but the United States abstained during the vote.
It is understood that this is due to amendments to the draft American resolution that were agreed upon by members of the world organization's General Assembly.
Amendments to the US draft resolution include defining that Russia has launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and that a sustainable and comprehensive peace must be achieved in accordance with the United Nations Charter and in support of Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.
The document was supported by 93 members, 73 abstained, and eight countries were against.
In the text, the United States of America (US) called for a "prompt end to the conflict" and further for "lasting peace between Ukraine and the Russian Federation".
The US-drafted proposal made no mention of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began exactly three years ago.
