Vuković: TVCG continues to hide the unpleasant truth about the illegal general director of RTCG

AUTHOR: M.J.
Yesterday, the media center sent a complaint to the RTCG ombudsman regarding the omission of information about the official stay of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović in Montenegro and her critical assessment of the management behavior of the national public broadcaster RTCG, announced the president of the Media Center Assembly, Dragoljub Duško Vuković.
"The media center believes that the hiding of information that the public has the right to know in the central news program Dnevnik 2 TVCG, represents another gross violation of the basic ethical principles of the journalistic profession and the standards prescribed by the Rulebook on program principles and professional standards of the RTCG," says Vuković.
In the central news program Dnevnik 2, broadcast on March 22, Vuković points out, there was no information that Commissioner Mijatović was in Montenegro and that, among other things, she judged that "the non-implementation of the decisions of the domestic courts on the appointment of the director of the Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG ) raises questions regarding respect for the rule of law, which is an issue that also needs to be addressed urgently".
"The Rulebook on program principles and professional standards RTCG states that "creators of radio and television programs violate professional standards if they hide, ignore, or in an inadequate context put (place) information with which they personally disagree."), as well as that "journalists and editors (are) responsible not only for what they publish, but also for what they keep silent, which is of interest to the public," Vuković states.
Unfortunately, says Vuković, it is not the first time that TVCG avoids informing its viewers about reasoned criticisms of the management of the national public media service.
"This was done at the end of October last year, when TVCG did not publish information about the resolution passed by the Parliament of the European Union, which referred to Montenegro. That resolution contains an assessment and criticism regarding the re-election of the General Director of RTCG, Boris Raonic, after the adoption of the final judgments of the High Court, and on the occasion of his illegal appointment in 2021," Vuković points out.
According to Vuković, TVCG then hid information from the public about the part of the EU Parliament resolution in which "concerns are expressed about the election of the general director of RTCG, which violates a final court decision".
"We hope that the protector of the rights of viewers and listeners of RTCG, Ombudsman Danijela Popović, will not now accept some incoherent explanation from the "TVCG editorial board", as she did regarding the previous objection of the Media Center, which she rejected," concluded Vuković.
