The claim of European Commissioner Marta Kos that Montenegro is making progress in the process of joining the European Union, with a coordinated foreign and domestic policy, is refuted by the fact that Chapter 31, which refers to foreign, security and defense policy, has not been closed. The fact that Montenegro is on the wrong path is also evidenced by the fact that the good neighborly policy has been violated, the relationship with Croatia, a member of the European Union, which has helped us many times in the process of European integration. We have embarked on a path that should not be followed - said in the central news program 24 hours on Television E, the president of the Democratic Party of Socialists and a member of the Parliament, Danijel Živković.
“It is precisely because of the strained relations with Croatia that we do not have the negotiation chapter 31 closed today. So what Commissioner Marta Kos said during her visit to Montenegro does not correspond to the factual situation. I would also like to remind you that government representatives have repeatedly said that we will close several chapters by the end of the year, and it came to four, and in the end we closed three. Let's be clear, it is good that Montenegro has closed three chapters, which is a certain step forward on the European path. It is bad that the current government is using the allegedly gained legitimacy for European integration and for carrying out a constitutional coup, disrupting good neighborly relations, disintegrating institutions, and even the state of Montenegro," said Živković.
The opposition's obligation is to stop the government from behaving arrogantly
He explains that the opposition's absence from the special parliamentary session, which was attended by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, was not about the attitude towards the European Union, nor towards Kosovo, but towards the behavior of the parliamentary majority and its leader Andrija Mandić.
"They are trying in various ways to influence the destabilization of political, social and other situations in our country. I don't have to remind you that we, as the opposition, supported all the laws concerning Montenegro's European perspective, supported the IBAR laws, kept quiet about all the provocations that Mandić carried out in the Parliament - from the new logo to the moving of flags. We also had an agreement on the census. The opposition had many, many situations in which it should have raised the issue of the behavior of the parliamentary majority and the President of the Parliament. But we did not do that primarily because of the European path. When the red line is crossed, when the government throws the Constitution underfoot, when we no longer have the institutions of the system that should respond to the arrogant and arrogant behavior of such a government, then it is the opposition's obligation to behave responsibly and stop the government," Živković emphasized.
The President of the Democratic Party of Socialists and a member of the Parliament claims that they informed the European Commissioner about what the parliamentary majority, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and the President of the Parliament Andrija Mandić are doing.
"Of course, we will continue what we started. Until things return to their previous state, I am talking about a constitutional coup, until the demands of the opposition are met, there will be no parliamentary sessions, nor regular parliamentary and political life in the Assembly. The repertoire of our response will probably be expanded,” said Živković.
The street has moved to the institutions
He believes that the current government will not, as he says, hand over its positions peacefully.
“One rule has been established after August 30, and that is - if we are not the government at the state and local level, regardless of whether we have a foundation in the election result, that government will not be formed without us” – Živković points out.
The situation in Budva and the fact that violence in the municipal building prevented the formation of a government without the participation of Mandić and Knežević’s cadres, speaks, says Živković, of two things.
“The first is that representatives of the Democratic Front want to violently preserve power in all municipalities, and therefore also at the state level. The second speaks of the inability of Montenegrin institutions to oppose illegal behavior, which is under the burden of criminal liability of those who are trying to prevent the formation of government in Budva. We have a situation in which the street has moved to institutions, the institutions have no reaction, and citizens, among whom there are security-interested persons and members of organized criminal groups, can storm the Municipality and stop the parliamentary session,” reminds Živković.
He notes that the opposition will be ready to respond if the obstruction of the government and the formation of government in Budva, or in some other areas where the Democratic Party of Socialists wins a majority, continues. He believes that this will undoubtedly happen in the next elections in Nikšić.
“Our rating is growing, there is no need for any nervousness, but when the government thinks that it has been given the right, or the opportunity, to overthrow the Constitution, to violate the good-neighborly policy, to dissolve institutions, and that there is no adequate reaction to their behavior, then you have no other obligation than to oppose such a government in every way. We will compete in the elections, show our strength. Those who fear that the Democratic Party of Socialists will take over power must get used to the fact that it is about the will of the citizens" - said Živković.
