Montenegro's representative, Nina Žižić, will sing in the second semi-final of the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland, it was decided today by the draw in Basel.
The draw also determined that in the first part of the semi-final night on May 15, Žižić will represent Montenegro with the song "Dobrodošli".
In addition to Montenegro, Austria, Lithuania, Armenia, Greece, Ireland, Australia and Latvia will sing in the first part of the second semi-final.
The Czech Republic, Israel, Malta, Finland, Denmark, Luxembourg, Georgia and Serbia will perform in the second part.
The countries that will participate in the first part of the first semi-final on May 12 are Sweden, Ukraine, Slovenia, Iceland, Estonia, Poland and Portugal.
The Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Albania, San Marino, Belgium, Cyprus, Croatia and Norway will sing in the second part.
The draw was hosted by Jennifer Bosshard and Jan van Ditzhuijzen. Representatives from last year's host city, Malmö, also came to Basel to officially mark the handover to the new host city of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Semi-final draw: How does it work?
Switzerland, as the host country, along with the five members of the so-called "Big 5" participating countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) do not compete in the semi-finals, but their home audiences can vote for one of them. Before the competing countries are awarded a place in the semi-finals, it will be randomly determined which of the semi-finals the "Big 5" will be able to vote in.
The next part of the draw will determine which semi-final and in which half of the respective semi-final the other participating countries will perform.
Semi-final allocation from a hat
Drawing countries from different hats helps to reduce the chances of so-called neighbor voting and increases the uncertainty in the semi-finals.
As a reminder, the semi-finals will be held on May 13 and 15, and the grand final is scheduled for May 17. The festival is held in the "Sankt Jakobshalle" hall in Basel.
The first Eurovision Song Contest was held in Switzerland - Lugano hosted competitors from eight countries in 1956, and the second time European musicians gathered in Switzerland was in 1989 in Lausanne, when Yugoslavia recorded its only victory in the competition.
