Thousands of Americans are protesting across the U.S., including in Washington, D.C., against the policies of President Donald Trump and the budget cuts pushed by billionaire Elon Musk.
A number of left-wing civil movements have called for demonstrations nationwide against the Republican president. Since returning to the White House on January 20, Trump has cited the legitimacy of the people who elected him, attempting to justify his actions.
"Donald Trump and Elon Musk think the country belongs to them. They take whatever they can get their hands on and challenge the world if it tries to stop them," states a press release posted on the website of one of the movements organizing the protests, "Indivisible."
"On Saturday, April 5th, we will take to the streets across the country to resist with a clear message – hands off us," the statement adds.
One of the major protests is planned near the White House, where several Democratic officials will speak, including Congressman Jamie Raskin.
Americans are most dissatisfied with cuts to social assistance, the threat to education and scientific research, as well as the firing of thousands of employees from state-owned enterprises.
Many Democratic Party supporters criticize their party for being "deaf and powerless" in the face of attacks from Trump's administration.
During his campaign, Trump promised to reduce federal costs and lower federal spending. He entrusted his multimillionaire ally Musk with carrying out this program.
