Trump hints at readiness to send more Patriot missiles to Ukraine after meeting with Zelensky

US President Donald Trump has hinted that he may consider sending Ukraine more Patriot air defense missiles, which Kiev is counting on to defend itself against increasingly intense Russian attacks. He made the remarks after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today.

Both leaders said their 50-minute meeting, held on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague, was a positive step in a war now entering its fourth year, which Trump described as "harder than other wars".

At a press conference, Trump said that it was "very difficult to get those missiles", but added: "We will see if we can make some of them available".

The US president also left open the possibility of sending additional military aid to Kiev, which has faced major challenges in recent months in trying to stop the slow but persistent Russian advances on the front.

So far, Trump has shown no willingness to resume arms sales to Ukraine that were initiated by his predecessor Joe Biden.

Zelensky described the meeting as "long and substantive," saying they discussed "all the really important issues."

"We talked about how to get a ceasefire and real peace," he wrote on X. "We talked about how to protect our people."

Trump added that he would soon speak again with Vladimir Putin, saying that "the Russian president really needs to end this war."

Zelensky has been trying to repair relations with Washington since a failed meeting at the White House in February, especially after Trump's recent friendly gestures toward Russia raised concerns among officials in Kiev.
