Trump, Macron and Zelensky for a ceasefire in Ukraine and European troops in a 1,000 km demilitarized zone

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS
A ceasefire should be established in Ukraine as soon as possible with a demilitarized zone along a thousand kilometers of front, which would be monitored by at least 40 thousand European soldiers, the newly elected US President Donald Trump and the presidents of France Emmanuel Macron and Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky agreed.

This is the outcome of the recent meeting of the troika in Paris, which was then confirmed by new talks in Warsaw between Macron and Donald Tusk, the president of Poland, which takes over the presidency of the European Union on January 1.

Senior American, French and Polish officials conveyed this to the Warsaw daily "Żeczpospolita" and the New York "Wall Street Journal", which states that "Trump, who intends to reduce US involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, is preparing proposals with his associates that will finally shape the president's national security team".

The future head of the White House, the Wall Street Journal adds, has made it clear that he is against Ukraine joining NATO, which is obviously also aimed at attracting the key Russian party to the peace plan, given that Moscow's strategic goal is a militarily neutral Ukraine.

Trump also emphasized that he wants Ukraine to be strengthened and well-armed after the war, but that this, just like the soldiers in a possible demilitarized zone, should be primarily taken care of and the costs borne by the European members of NATO.

The newly elected American president also asked Macron and European leaders to put pressure on China to influence Russia to end the war, and he also pointed out that possible new tariffs on Chinese goods could have an effect in this regard.

Paris and London have apparently already discussed ideas to stop the Ukrainian war and establish a demilitarized zone along the front line for over a thousand kilometers, which would be monitored by tens of thousands of Western European soldiers.

In discussions between military experts and active generals in European capitals, it was estimated that such a long demilitarized zone, necessarily at least a hundred kilometers wide, would require up to a hundred thousand soldiers, and the question was raised as to what would be acceptable to Moscow and whose soldiers would be the guarantee that the dividing line would be safely monitored.

According to the newspaper "Żeczpospolita", Polish President Tusk and his Minister of Defense made it clear that it was out of the question for Polish soldiers to be deployed in the imagined demilitarized zone.

The Warsaw daily points out that French Prime Minister Macron told Trump that Europe has its own security interests and will certainly have to bear the enormous costs of helping Ukraine, so it must not be bypassed in the negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine, in which Washington and Moscow will necessarily play a major role.
