In a strong earthquake 6.8 degrees on the Richter scale, which hit Tibet, at least 95 people were killed, the Chinese authorities announced this morning, reports Roiters agencies.
The earthquake shook the buildings in neighboring countries Nepal, Bhutan and India.
The earthquake was recorded at 9:05 in the morning, local time, with an epicenter in Tingria, a rural district known as the north entrance to the Everest region, at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the China Center for the earthquake network. The American Geological Service estimated the magnitude of the earthquake to 7.1.
At least 95 people were killed, and 130 injured on the Tibetan side, Chinese state television reported six hours later. There were no reports on deaths in other countries.
The southwestern parts of China, Nepal and North India are often affected by earthquakes due to the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plate collision.
