AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

Dozens of high schools in Serbia are on lockdown, amid protests that have been organized for days in that country, and the Ministry of Education has proposed to the Government that the winter break for high and primary schools begin earlier than planned.

As the Ministry of Education announced, they proposed that the break begin on December 24.

"Considering the circumstances that affect the quality and preservation of the teaching process, as well as the interest and right of students to education, the Ministry of Education has sent a proposal to the Government of Serbia that the winter break begin equally for primary and secondary schools throughout the territory of Serbia," the Ministry said in a statement.

They stated that "in accordance with the proposal", the second semester would begin on January 20, Radio Free Europe reports.

Several dozen high schools in about 20 cities in Serbia are on lockdown, as part of student protests that have been organized for days in that country.

Students in their final years do not have classes and are thus supporting the students' demands.

Part of the students of several secondary schools in Serbia joins the "Stop, Serbia" campaign every day, during which citizens honor those who died in the accident at the Railway Station in Novi Sad through 15 minutes of silence.

A number of professors also provided support to high school students.
