Ukraine has carried out new drone attacks on Moscow and St. Petersburg. The Russian air defense managed to shoot down a large number of aircraft, but residential complexes were damaged.
Russia has also carried out attacks in which one person was killed.
Russian air defenses intercepted a drone flying towards Moscow on August 23, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. He said parts of the downed drone were being examined on the ground. There were no casualties.
In response to concerns about airspace safety, Russia's federal aviation agency Rosaviatsia has temporarily suspended operations at several airports in major cities in the Volga and Central regions of European Russia.
Significant flight delays have also been reported in St. Petersburg, Russia's second largest city. Several Russian airlines, including Rossiya and Pobjeda, have announced changes to their flight schedules due to airspace restrictions, writes Kyiv Independent.
Fire near Kursk nuclear power plant and in Leningrad region
The Russian air defense forces shot down a Ukrainian drone near the Kursk nuclear power plant shortly after midnight, causing damage to a transformer and a fire, the nuclear power plant's management announced on its Telegram channel.
Also, a fire broke out at the Novatek gas company's terminal in the Ust Luga port in the Leningrad region of Russia this morning due to an attack by a Ukrainian drone, but no injuries were reported, the head of the region, Alexander Drozdenko, announced.
One person killed in Ukraine
One person was killed this morning in a Russian drone attack on the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, the head of the military regional administration, Sergiy Lisak, announced. He posted on Telegram that the attack caused damage to the territory of an agricultural enterprise. He also said that a fire broke out in an apartment building and a private house.
