The chief of staff of US President Donald Trump banned Aleksandar Vučić from entering the Mar-a-Lago complex in Florida, even though he paid, former Yugoslav and Serbian diplomat Nebojša Vujović told N1 Belgrade regarding the news that the Serbian president had suddenly returned to Serbia from the US.
"Trump is more interested in an individual game of chess with Putin (he has already 'buried' Zelensky), and not in Vučić solving his internal problems in Serbia by taking pictures with Trump. He wanted to use the photo (reception) in Florida to ease pressure from Europe and prepare for his departure to Moscow. He drew himself between Trump and Putin, taking away Trump's exclusivity and position as a mediator towards Europe," Vujović said.
"Students tricked him into harming himself"
The former diplomat points out that Vučić violated his position both in Washington and in Moscow, and that students "crowned" him in Europe.
"With this move, he crowned himself in Europe as well, more than the students did. However, the students successfully lured him into behaving irrationally and causing political damage to himself. They hit him on the nerves and gave him a 'road map' on how to go from mistake to mistake. He wanted a quick reckoning with the academic community and the suppression of protests, but he is achieving the opposite. Even those who have saved him so far out of their own interests - above all Brussels, Paris and Berlin - now have to tie the knot hands," Vujović said.
He also added that Trump is smarter in his second term than in the first, even though he makes mistakes.
"He is not a naive fool as many in America and Europe perceive him to be. He did not come to power by chance – most Americans gave him their full support. Of course, he makes mistakes, but he does what he promised in the campaign. He will be more dangerous to Putin than Macron and the like, he should not be underestimated. Vučić naively got himself into trouble," Vujović concluded.
No official explanation
Earlier, all pro-regime media outlets in Florida reported that the Serbian president suddenly returned to the country because he fell ill in the afternoon hours US time. His office has not yet released an official statement on Vučić's health.
Some representatives of opposition parties in Serbia have questioned the official reason for Vučić's return.
The deputy president of the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP) Borko Stefanović assessed that Vučić's "private visit to Miami was a complete fiasco", while the president of the Serbia Center party Zdravko Ponoš said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić "kissed the door, even though he was languishing waiting to kiss Trump's hand".
