Kremlin downplays expectations for Trump-Putin meeting

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

The Kremlin said no final document was expected after the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, which will take place tomorrow in Alaska.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to the Russian state news agency TASS and other media outlets, told reporters that such a document was "not expected" after the talks and that nothing had been prepared. "And it is unlikely that there will be any document," he added.

Peskov, however, said that a joint press conference would be held after the summit, and that the Russian president would outline "a number of agreements and arrangements that will be reached."

He stressed that preparations for the summit had been made within a limited timeframe, adding that current talks on the war in Ukraine were being conducted bilaterally and that Kiev's position would be considered at a later stage.

Peskov said Putin's earlier meeting with Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in Moscow was productive and paved the way for the summit.

Peskov warned that it would be a "big mistake" to rush and predict the outcome of the talks, and called for patience and "to see how the talks go".
