The President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik paid the money he used to replace the one-year prison sentence he received after a judicial verdict for disobeying the decisions of the High Representative.
"Deciding on the request of the defense of the convicted Milorad Dodik to replace the imposed prison sentence with a fine, the Court, in accordance with legal regulations, issued a decision by which, after the statement of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, the aforementioned defense proposal was adopted, and the prison sentence imposed on the convicted Milorad Dodik was replaced with a fine," the Court of BiH announced.
Dodik paid 36,500 KM, or 100 KM for each of the 365 days he was supposed to spend behind bars.
It is also worth noting that it is possible to buy out a prison sentence of up to a year.
In addition to the prison sentence, Dodik was also banned from political activity for six years.
Due to this part of the verdict, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC) stripped him of his mandate as President of the RS.
The CEC decision was received today by his lawyer, Goran Bubić, who has filed an appeal.
The Appellate Council's decision is expected to be issued next week.
