At a session of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik was stripped of the presidency of Republika Srpska. This decision was adopted unanimously.
Dodik's defense has the right to appeal this decision to the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH, which considers election appeals. After the appeal process has expired, the decision will become final.
The CEC session with this agenda item came after Dodik was sentenced to one year in prison and was given a six-year ban on holding the office of President of the RS.
Dodik's lawyer, Goran Bubić, has already announced that he will seek a temporary measure to postpone the execution of this verdict, which he will appeal to the Constitutional Court of BiH.
In order to retain the office he holds, Dodik and the SNSD are calling on the RS opposition to form a "government of national unity".
However, the opposition is not yet in the mood to extend a hand to Dodik after numerous insults and calls them "foreign mercenaries" and "servants of Sarajevo".
Only the president of the PDP, Draško Stanivuković, has not come out with a clear position on the SNSD's invitation, and the conclusions of the session of the PDP Presidency, which will be held tomorrow, are awaited.
The RS Government also met yesterday and adopted eight conclusions, including the rejection of the verdict of the Court of BiH and the call for all parties to stand by Dodik.
A session of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska is also expected to be convened.
