Ukrainian drone attack sparks fires in Rostov region, Russia says

AUTHOR:M.J. GDNUS

A Ukrainian drone attack overnight caused several fires, including at a substation, in Russia’s southern Rostov region, the region’s acting governor said on Monday.

There were no injuries in the attack, and the fire at the substation covering an area of about 500 square meters has been extinguished, acting Rostov governor Yuri Slyusar said in a Telegram post.

Russian defense units destroyed a total of 24 Ukrainian drones overnight, including seven over Rostov region, a frequent target of Ukrainian strikes, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram. The ministry only publishes the number of drones shot down, not how many Ukraine launched.

Reuters could not independently confirm the reports, and there was no immediate comment from Kiev. Ukraine has often claimed that its attacks inside Russia are aimed at destroying infrastructure crucial to Moscow's war effort and are a response to Russia's continued strikes on Ukraine.
