A fierce battle for Kursk is underway. After Russian special forces stormed through the gas pipeline in Suzha, trying to surprise Ukrainian troops as part of a major offensive to drive Kiev forces from the region, which they initially invaded in August 2024, the Ukrainians launched attacks on them in the area.
Ukrainian airborne forces are trying to eliminate Russian sabotage and assault groups that have sneaked into the outskirts of Suzha in Kursk region through an abandoned gas pipeline, the Ukrainian General Staff announced.
After the presence of Russian troops in the area was discovered, Ukrainian paratroopers launched rocket and artillery strikes and engaged unmanned systems of various types, Ukrinform.net reports.
"Currently, Russian special operations forces are being detected, blocked and destroyed. The enemy's losses in the Suzha area are enormous," the Ukrainian General Staff claimed.
"Airborne units are destroying Russian special forces moving along the gas pipeline branch in the direction of Suzha," the video said.
According to reports, about 100 Russian soldiers approached Ukrainian positions in Suzha, the administrative center of Kursk Oblast, on Saturday morning after breaking into the area through an abandoned gas pipeline.
Ukrainian military officials said the Russian military tried to seize Suzha, which remains under their control, but the attack was repelled with the help of rockets, artillery and drones. Yuriy Podoljaka, a pro-Russian military blogger born in Ukraine, said the Russian special forces walked about 15 km along the main gas pipeline and that some spent several days in the pipes before surprising Ukrainian forces from behind near Suzha.
