The President of the Association "Cetinje" Mirsad Jahović stayed in Ljubljana, where he met in the Montenegrin House with the President of the National Council of the Montenegrin Community Veselin Lakić Šukurica and the President of the Association "Crna Gora" - Ljubljana Zoran Laketić. During the conversation, they discussed the activities of our emigrants in the United States and Slovenia. Jahović introduced his hosts to the way Montenegrins are organized in the United States of America and the activities and history of the oldest association in the USA that he leads. Lakić and Laketić shared their experiences and introduced their interlocutor to the working conditions and position of Montenegrins in Slovenia. They pointed out that due to poor legal solutions, that country does not help significant minority communities, and therefore not Montenegro. fully support and assist the work of minority communities, including the Montenegrin one. Despite the lack of significant support from Slovenian institutions, Montenegrins in that country are implementing numerous projects dedicated to preserving tradition, culture, customs, language and uniqueness. They have a modest publishing activity and their own magazine that is published annually.
The interlocutors emphasized that cooperation with the institutions of the state of Montenegro, especially those dealing with cooperation with the diaspora and emigrants, should be better and more fruitful. They noted that cooperation with Montenegrin institutions has been almost non-existent for a long time. They believe that the state of Montenegro should show more sensitivity and interest in its diaspora and emigrants.
During the conversation, mutual satisfaction with the meeting was emphasized, as well as the expressed readiness and desire to establish closer cooperation between the "Cetinje" Illinois association and the National Community of Montenegrins in Slovenia. They concluded that our diaspora is dedicated to preserving the Montenegrin national identity and that the well-being of their homeland is imperative.
