President of the Association "Cetinje" Mirsad Jahović stayed in Zagreb, where he met in the Montenegrin House with the president of the National Council of the Montenegrin Community, Alija Šukurica, and the secretary of that council and president of the Association "Crna Gora"-Zagreb, Bojan Radulović. During the conversation, they talked about the activities of our emigrants in the United States and Croatia. Jahović introduced his hosts to the way Montenegrins are organized in the United States of America and the activities and history of the oldest association in the USA that he leads. Šukurica and Radulović shared their experiences and informed their interlocutor about the working conditions and position of Montenegrins in Croatia. They emphasized that this country and the city of Zagreb fully support and help the work of minority communities, including the Montenegrin one. They state that Croatia can be an example to other countries on how to regulate the position of minorities and immigrants. Thanks to the support of Croatian institutions, Montenegrins in that country are implementing numerous projects dedicated to preserving tradition, culture, customs, language and uniqueness. They also have a thriving publishing business and their own magazine that is published bimonthly.
The interlocutors emphasized that cooperation with the institutions of the state of Montenegro, especially those dealing with cooperation with the diaspora and emigrants, should be better and more fruitful. They stated that cooperation with Montenegrin institutions has been almost non-existent for some time. They believe that the state of Montenegro should show more sensitivity and interest in its diaspora and emigrants.
During the conversation, mutual satisfaction with the meeting was emphasized, as well as the expressed readiness and desire to establish closer cooperation between the "Cetinje" Illinois association and the National Community of Montenegrins in Croatia. They concluded that our diaspora is dedicated to preserving the Montenegrin national identity and that the well-being of their homeland is imperative.
