Cafe "Bubamara", Restaurant in the town of Cliffon in New Jersey, serves the Balkan specialties for almost a decade, including the famous Montenegrin dishes. It is also popular among immigrants from the space of the former Yugoslavia and Americans. The owners, Snezana and Sasa Milić, a native of Podgorica, for the voice of America, say the idea was to "make something of ours".
"Let's show people in our country, former Yugoslavia, we have good food, we have something to present, to show me. 70 percent are foreigners, 30 percent of ours. Maybe it was at the beginning 70 percent of ours, but over time People started coming back to our food, our pepes, our bureke, "Sasa Milić, who came with his wife, and his wife, the inhabitant of Podgorica in the late 1990s.
The beginnings, as Snezana recalls, were not easy.
"It was a lot of difficult for the first year, until the angel had left a child in Podgorica. That period without her here, first it was very difficult. Secondly, as we accepted us. . But we won, "says Snezana.
"Every beginning is hard. Anything to do in life. But this country gives a lot of chances for everyone who wants and want to work. And who gives a maximum of doing something. Here man when he comes with a great possibility To build yourself in something that may not have been in second place, "Sasha believes.
Milići opened "Kafe Bubamar" at the end of 2014 in Clifton, in which a large number of immigrants live from the former Yugoslavia. The name of the restaurant inspired an important person in their lives, especially the daughter of the angel.
"We came here and that Grandpa, stepped a lot about her upbringing and entering the entire American system. He spent a lot of time with her, while I was working on a bubamar and asked an angel: What is the name of this in your language. She said Bubamara ... And that's what her name was Bubamar, and he called her all the time. We died to open something together, and then we were thinking of whether the restaurant was called Granpa Place Or Bubamara. It was a competition, but in the end, we all decided to be a beetle and to be remembering him, "Sasha told the Voice of America.
The restaurant was easy to open, but hard to keep open, with a lot of renunciation, they say milici. The Sasha of the Family in Podgorica - apart from football, in the 1980s, was the owner of the popular cafe in the capital of Montenegro.
"It's a big effort, it's a big job, and work 365 days a year, at 16 hours, it's not very simple. But all those guests give you a will ... They're happy foods are great, ambience, music. It happened to Americans listen to our music they don't understand, I don't know what this music is like, but it's wonderful. "
After almost 10 years since the opening, the restaurant is very popular, and his best ads are pleased with customers, when it comes to the menu, have their favorites, they expire Snow.
"Our traditional dishes - kebabs, bouts, donuts, donuts. There is no desk that does not place donuts.
Guests also order Montenegrin specialties, pepes, kacamak and popara. Sasha says that Americans especially advise not to eat him in the evening "because he can be difficult."
Kachamak Many guests are memories of Montenegro. Andjelka Kalabreze, originally from Montenegro, in America lives in 48 years, and in Cafe Bubamar comes often.
"It seems like I'm at home when I get here. Just like in Podgorica. He reminds me of my grandmother, I enjoy the right to tell you," says Anđelka.
Her friend says that, when in New York, he always comes in a cafe to Bubamar, and that she was the most favorite dish burek with cheese.
Some guests come and to try Turkish coffee.
"The Turkish coffee is very strong, in the beginning, but it is a good combination with a desert. We will definitely go back and try other things from the menu," says one of Gošći.
While eating meals on the menu, in front of the restaurant is a famous car from the time of the former Yugoslavia - Fića. For Sasha Milić, it is another reminder of "old good times", which, which arrived from Podgorica in 2020.
"I wish I go with her to Tims Skver. I'll see how they react. Titogradska tables must remain forward, and the Table of New Jersey in the back. I have Yugoslavia in Mali," Sasha says.
Until he reaches Times Square, Fice can be seen on the streets of Cliffon, where Milići also live, which years pass, plan new projects, but they are also slowly considering retirement. Snezana hopes it will be in Montenegro, while Sasa wants to share time between Montenegro and America.
