- It is the best moment in my life, I am 100 years old and my fiancee is 96, and the wedding here in Karantan is incredible. It's my second favorite place in the world... I feel young again - Terence told AFP after the ceremony and after he and the bride greeted the crowd from the municipal balcony.

Terence said that "his religion is love, and love conquers war."

When in the wedding hall the registrar asked the fiancee in English if she agreed to have Terence as her husband, she exclaimed "Yes!" in French, followed by applause. And Terence answered in the affirmative, after which the registrar said that from now on they were married.

The bride and groom, who together are almost 200 years old, kissed to a standing ovation while a female singer performed "Ave Maria."

The bride, who wore a pink satin dress, told AFP before the wedding that she had waited 96 years to find the right person and that her wedding was "like for kings and queens".

Josephine Baker's "J'ai deux amours" and Dolly Parton's "I will always love you" were sung in the wedding hall.

After the wedding, champagne was served in the municipality, which made an effort to welcome this "American hero", and in front of the building there was a parachute similar to the ones used by the allied forces for landing on June 6, 1944.

Terence, who is from the US state of Florida, was awarded the French Legion of Honor in 2019, and on Thursday he attended the "D-Day" celebration along with other veterans.
