The suspect in the New Orleans shooting is dead, a federal law enforcement official told CNN.
There is evidence that the suspect acted intentionally, the official said.
The FBI and police are searching the vehicle to determine a motive.
Recall, Ten people were killed and 30 injured after a vehicle plowed into a crowd in New Orleans.
President Joe Biden was notified after a driver plowed a truck into a crowd during a New Year's Eve celebration on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early Wednesday morning, according to a White House statement.
“President Biden has been briefed on the horrific news that a driver killed and injured dozens of people in New Orleans overnight, and the White House has reached out to New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell to offer support,” the statement said.
Mayor Cantrell provided initial information about the attack.
“We know that the city of New Orleans was impacted by a terrorist attack,” Cantrell said, noting that the incident is still under investigation.
The FBI has taken over the investigation and says an improvised explosive device was found at the scene.
“This is not a terrorist attack,” said Agent Althea Duncan.
“Improvised explosive devices were found at the scene,” she added. She urged the public to stay away from the area “until we understand what is happening.”
